The East Rand Youth Choir stands as one of South Africa’s longest-established and most distinguished youth ensembles. Founded in 1978, the choir was created to unite the most promising young voices of the East Rand in a disciplined, aspirational musical environment. What began as a regional initiative soon developed into a choral institution known for excellence, integrity and artistic ambition.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the choir built a national reputation for refined performance and musical depth. These decades saw milestone achievements such as acclaimed national appearances, international collaborations and the landmark 1994 European tour, which introduced the choir’s signature sound to audiences abroad. The release of Musica Grata Deo further cemented ERYC’s standing as a youth choir capable of professional-level artistry.
